When BAM Construction were awarded the contract to build a state-of-the-art Surgical Skills Centre in York for healthcare giant Smith & Nephew, finding the right sub-contractors became paramount to ensure this ‘world-class’ facility would attract senior surgeons from around the globe.
“Surgeon education is a big driver for our business and is something that we invest heavily in around the world,” said Michael Frazzette, President of
Smith & Nephew’s Endoscopy Division.
Stonehouse worked with the American based designers, architects and brand managers at Smith & Nephew, interpreting their drawings, producing samples to ensure the final product would meet their exacting brief. The 1500 m2 facility features an 82-seat lecture theatre, auditorium, wet lab and refreshment preparation and relaxation / reception area.
Mark Sanderson, Senior Site Manager, BAM Construction said, “I was very impressed with the quality of the products supplied to us by Stonehouse,” which included fully bespoke reception desk, kitchen & coffee island, vanity units, display cabinets, feature door units and other fitted items.
He also added that, “The President of Endoscopy from Smith & Nephew, who came for the handover meeting, stated that the finish Stonehouse achieved was amongst the best he had seen”.
It was vital that the standard of our products reflected the centre’s status as a world leading, multi-million pound facility, and that we worked closely with BAM to ensure the project ran on budget, and on time.
He further added, “Nothing has seemed like too much trouble for Stonehouse and for a fast paced project like this having that kind of attitude from a sub contractor makes my job that much easier.”
Steve Waugh, for Stonehouse added, “We are delighted to have been involved in such a prestigious project, and to play a part in the overall success of the centre. This can be largely attributed to the quality of the workmanship, and having a can-do attitude. Working closely with the team at BAM we were able to deliver a truly bespoke scheme that more than exceeded the client’s expectations.
